Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest asked to legally change his name to Metta World Peace and his request was recently approved by an L.A. Superior Court commissioner earlier today.
Artest changed his name for "personal reasons" and his name means loving kindness.
Artest said, "Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world," he told E! News.
Artest is also one of the celebrity competitors on Dancing with the Stars and they most likely will use his new name. Wikipedia already changed his name. I can’t wait to see that name on the back of a basketball jersey after the NBA lockout is over.

It was also reported that his family accepts his new name and in fact his daughter plans on changing her surname to World Peace just like her dad. Oh goodness.
