A Rapper gets Criticized for Being Invited to the White House

First Lady, Michelle Obama had a "Celebration of American Poetry" event at the White House yesterday and invited poets over to the White House to read poetry. One of those poets was rapper Common, along with singer Jill Scott and others.

We already know rappers already have a bad rep but people really got their panties in a bunch over this news.

Criticism started hitting the media waves about how Common raps about violence; the streets, cops and guns.

"So apparently Sarah Palin and Fox News doesn't like me," Common tweeted on Tuesday.

Fox News reported yesterday, that Common "unleashed lyrical attacks" on former President George W. Bush that have been criticized by conservatives.

"Common is not known as a gangsta rapper, but some of his songs and poems feature violent imagery. In one poem, he called for the metaphorical burning of President George W. Bush -- a burning Bush," according to FOXNews.com

Common tweeted yesterday, "I'm super geeked about performing at the white house tonight. I gotta bring it!"

Here are a couple of comments said about the President and Common:

"President Barack Obama should apologize to the State Police "for inviting a rap singer who praises the assassin of a New Jersey State Trooper to the White House."

"Shame on the president, who had a great week last week...Last week he was a superstar. This week he's a nut."

Ouch! A nut? Really?

Common was also called a cop hater. Want to see who said those comments?: Read more on this here

Common responded via Twitter and said, "Politics is politics and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I respect that. The one thing that shouldn’t be questioned is my support for the police officers and troops that protect us every day. Peace yall!"
